KEEPING COOL!
It look like the hot weather have returned here on the east coast while in other places they’re anticipating (and some area, in )a big storm called, Earl. There’s a category 4 storm working up towards the North Carolina.
Keeping cool seems to be a science just to survive it these days. I believe the extreme heat is a serious matter and everyone should look at it that way. We’ve had several episodes of deaths of the elderly
because of this extreme heat. Sometimes, fans just don’t do it. Many elderly are afraid of opening their windows to let the air circulate because of the risk of their homes being broken in to.
Drinking plenty of cool water and carrying a cooler stocked with bottles of water with you is one of the best things you can do. You never know when a heat wave might hit you.
When shopping, look to see if there’s any well-maintained water fountains around in the store. Drinking water between trips to the store is important. Monitor when the last time you had a drink of water. You can quickly loose track of time. Dizziness, restlessness, feeling faint, headache and disorientation are some signs of heat exhaustion. If you feel warm, take your temperature and call your MD or go to the ER if the temperature don’t come down and you don’t feel better after drinking cold water. You could be in the beginning of a heat stroke.
Of course, if you have young children and even pets, or an elderly relative living with you, monitor how much they drink as well as yourself. Check on an elderly friend, neighbor, or relative during this period of a heat wave.
I keep an extra bottle of water in the refrigerator all the time-refilling it when it gets low. No need to be buying so much of water.
Taking a cool shower can be give you some relief as well.
White reflect and dark colors absorb. This is what you remember when selecting clothing to wear
on a very hot day. Mall walking is great for getting your walk in, saving energy from using your air conditioner so much, and shopping. Many of the malls have an activity center where you can do crafts, and even line dancing.
Trees are very important in keeping cool and cooling your home. If the outside of your home looks a little bare, it might be a good idea to make some plans to purchase some nice bush or tree.
Speaking to someone who is experience in landscaping is vital because when planting a tree, you need to know how to care for it and where to plant it-making sure you follow your township rules or clearance.
Tree roots can extend far and you don’t want problems with any gas lines or water pipes.
The other thing, is to make sure all children and everyone exits the car before going in the house.
Very little children have a tendency to fall asleep in the car after a shopping trip. It’s a good idea to
take the child in the house first and get the groceries last.
So, stay cool and well hydrated and look forward to enjoying the fall.
